Using a Custom Image for Always on Display on Samsung Galaxy S7 Phones

Yesterday, I became quite frustrated with my phone, for it seemed I could not figure out how to use a custom image for the Always on Display feature. I researched this, but the methods I found did not seem relevant to my phone.

I am sure this information is located somewhere else as well, but I could not find it, so I am going to share what I found here.

First of all, the Always on Display feature refers to a dim image or gif appearing on your phone screen when in sleep mode.

To turn on Always on Display:
  1. Go to your phone's settings.
  2. Select "display".
  3. Scroll down to the bottom. Under "Looking for something else?", select "Always on Display."
  4. After clicking this, the first option should also say "Always on Display", and will have a slider next to it. Click the slider to activate it.
To change clock styles and/or add custom images:
  1. Go back to settings.
  2. Click "Lock Screen and Security."
  3. Select "Clock and FaceWidgets."
  4. Go to "Clock Style."
  5. Click the tab "Always on Display."
  6. Here you can choose different styles of the clock. Unfortunately, there is only one style of clock you can pick that allows you to add your own image or a preset gif.
  7. Select the clock style with the square in the middle containing a plus sign (it may show a girl's face here).
  8. After doing this, merely select "Add Image" or "Add GIF".
  9. Note: You can select from preset gifs, or you can add your own gif by clicking "Add Image" then choosing a gif file. Unfortunately, I have found for myself that using my own gif image did not work very efficiently. The gif played once or so normally, then kept stopping and starting.
That's how to do it.

Hope this helped someone out there!
